EU renews its list of persons and organisations linked to terrorism for 6 months

14/01/2020 (Agence Europe)On Monday 13 January, the Council of the EU renewed the European list of persons and organisations linked to terrorism that are subject to restrictive measures. The list, revised every 6 months, includes 15 names, including Iranian General Qassem Soleimani, shot dead by the United States on 3 January (see EUROPE 12396/1), and 21 entities, including Hamas, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the military wing of Hezbollah and the PKK. It was first established pursuant to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolution following the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001 and is distinct from the EU regime implementing the UNSC resolutions targeting Al-Qaida and the Islamic State and its autonomous regime towards these two organisations as well as persons and entities associated with or supporting them.
