14/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Parliament, David Sassoli, assured, on Tuesday 14 January in Strasbourg, that the Parliament’s services were treating the cases of the Catalan separatists elected to the Parliament with “the utmost meticulousness”, taking into account European jurisprudence and Spanish justice, with particular reference to the end of Oriol Junqueras’ mandate pronounced the day before (see EUROPE 12402/6). These decisions taken after a very rigorous analysis constitute “a guarantee” of the authority of this Parliament, he said. He confirmed that the Spanish request to waive the immunity of Mr Puigdemont and Mr Comín would be dealt with, but without setting a timetable. The Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenković, whose country holds the Presidency of the EU Council, said that this issue was not dealt with at the level of the European Council and should be dealt with “in Spain”.
