14/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, announced on Tuesday 14 January his participation in a conference on the situation in Libya (see EUROPE 12401/2) and the implementation of a political solution, to be held on Sunday 19 January in Berlin. On Sunday 12 January, a ceasefire between the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Fayez al-Sarraj and the forces of Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar was announced, but the formal agreement has not yet been signed (see EUROPE 12402/1). Representatives from Turkey, Russia, China, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Italy are expected in the German capital. According to Reuters Libyan Prime Minister Fayez al-Sarraj and Marshal Khalifa Haftar were also reportedly invited. (MF and AC)
