08/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – EU Industry Commissioner Thierry Breton believes that Europe should focus on business-to-business (B2B) relations to catch up in the data market. This is what he told the French newspaper Les Échos in an interview on Tuesday 7 January. With regard to the Big Tech, he spoke in turn of their responsibility and concentration. On the first aspect, he calls for a strengthening of the responsibility of these platforms. “I would prefer to do it under the e-commerce directive, but we will see if we need to go further”, he said. On the second aspect, he is opposed to a dismantling of GAFA, considering that GAFA should only have to comply with the existing competition rules. “The priority, in my opinion, is to develop the capacity to speed up the processing of the files that are submitted to us”, he specifies.
