Arianespace and ESA announce contract to launch Euclid satellite to probe dark energy

07/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – Arianespace and the European Space Agency (ESA) announced on Tuesday 7 January, the signing of a contract for launch services for the Euclid satellite. “Euclid will scrutinize the very nature of our Universe, shedding light on its dark side: the mysterious dark matter and dark energy”, said Günther Hasinger, ESA Director of Exploration and Science. Take-off is scheduled for 2022 from the Guiana Space Centre. The mission is compatible with either the Russian Soyuz launcher or Ariane 62, the future European launcher. (PH)
