03/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – At the end of December, the European Commission approved applications for five new names to be included in the register of protected geographical indications (PGI), including ‘Pan Galego’/‘Pan Gallego’, a crispy Spanish bread produced in Galicia. ‘Sneem Black Pudding’ is a traditional black pudding from Ireland, produced in a village in County Kerry. Two Greek products have also been added: ‘Kritsa’ olive oil, which can only be produced from Koroneiki olives, and ‘Krasotiri Ko’ cheese, made from curdled milk and produced from pasteurised or raw goat's or sheep's milk and matured for one month. Finally, the Italian ‘Olio di Puglia’, an olive oil with a distinct fruity bouquet from the Apulia region has been added to the register. These new names will be added to the list of 1,460 products which are already protected. (LC)
