EU denounces foreign interference in conflict

18/12/2019 (Agence Europe)On 18 December, Peter Stano, spokesman for the European External Action Service, denounced the direct or indirect involvement of third countries in the conflict in Libya. In particular, Turkey has announced that it could provide military support to the Libyan government of Fayez al-Sarraj against General Haftar's forces. "No outside interference is welcome", Mr Stano warned, recalling that the solution to the Libyan crisis was political and not military. "We must avoid a situation where different bilateral and individual actions by different and various actors there fuel the conflict further", he added. According to Mr Stano, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, was in contact with various partners and players "in order to find a way forward on a political solution and to bring an end to military actions".
