18/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 18 December, the European Parliament called on the Commission to condemn all public acts of discrimination against LGBTI people and, in particular, the development of "LGBTI-free areas" in Poland. In a resolution adopted by 463 votes in favour, 107 against and 105 abstentions, MEPs expressed "their deep concern at the increasing number of attacks against lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and intersex people (LGBTI) in the EU by states, officials, national and local governments and politicians". The text mentions homophobic statements during a referendum campaign in Romania and hate speech against LGBTI people in the context of elections in Estonia, Spain, the United Kingdom, Hungary and Poland. In Poland, more than 80 Polish municipal or local governments have proclaimed themselves "free of any LGBTI ideology", the text highlights. (SP)
