17/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Standing Committee of European Medical Doctors (CPME) has hardened its 2010 position on novel tobacco and nicotine products. In a press release issued on Tuesday 17 December, the Federation of National Medical Associations said that these products – which are also to be the subject of a European Commission report in 2021, in accordance with Directive 2014/40/EU on tobacco products (see EUROPE 10987/16) – are hazardous to health. It therefore submits several recommendations, namely: – inform patients and do not prescribe these products as a fallback solution (to break a smoking addiction); – prohibit flavouring that increases the attractiveness of new products; – implement tax measures.
