12/12/2019 (Agence Europe) – German MEP Moritz Körner (Renew Europe) was also surprised by the position taken by Internal Affairs Commissioner Ylva Johansson in the European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee on 9 December in favour of legislation on data retention (see EUROPE 12387/32). The German MEP thus drafted a written question to the Commissioner, in which he recalled that the Swedish candidate, at the time of her application for her position as Commissioner, had on the contrary said in September, during her hearing in the Committee on Civil Liberties, that she did not consider this legislation necessary for the time being and that it was important to implement "what had already been decided". The German MEP drafted a priority written question asking the Commissioner to explain this rapid change of position, which could mean that she was "not sufficiently informed", or that she was not telling "the whole truth" at her hearing.
