Fight against terrorism, first common transatlantic priority

On Wednesday 11 December, the EU and the United States considered that their “first common priority” remained “the fight against terrorism in all its forms”.

We concurred on the importance of continuing and expanding our efforts to identify and hold accountable all those who support or engage in terrorist activity, with a particular emphasis on the sharing of information gathered in zones of combat for use in criminal proceedings as admissible evidence”, said a joint statement issued at the end of the US-EU ministerial meeting on justice and home affairs.

Cooperation in the fight against hybrid threats, as well as security problems posed by drones or cybersecurity, were also discussed.

The United States and the European Union reaffirmed the importance of enhancing judicial cooperation in cyberspace, in particular with regard to cross-border access to electronic evidence(see EUROPE 12376/12), the statement said. Both sides agreed to take stock of negotiations to facilitate access to e-evidence at their next ministerial meeting in the first half of 2020.
