On Wednesday 11 December, the European Commission decided to appoint Olivier Guersent, Director General of DG Financial Stability, Financial Services and Capital Markets Union (FISMA), to the position of Director General of DG Competition (COMP). Namely, he was Director of the cabinet of Michel Barnier, then Commissioner for the Internal Market.
Timo Pesonen (Finland), currently Director General in DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (GROW), will take over as Director General of DG Defence and Space Industry (DEFI), created on 4 December. Previously, Mr Pesonen worked as Director General of Communications (COMM) and as Head of Cabinet to Vice-President Olli Rehn.
In addition, Ms Paraskevi Michou, Director General of DG Migration and Home Affairs (HOME), is transferred to the position of Director General of DG European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO).
Finally, Ms Monique Pariat, Director General of DG ECHO, is transferred to the position of Director General of DG HOME.
