28/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Conference of Presidents of the European Parliament's political groups decided on 28 November to send an urgent mission to Malta to observe respect for the rule of law. This decision comes in the wake of the arrests around Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat in connection with the murder of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. The European Parliament will also discuss the recent revelations in a plenary debate in December, the Greens/EFA group told the European Parliament in a statement. This is the European Parliament's second mission to Malta on these events. According to German MEP Sven Giegold (Greens/EFA), the aim will be to investigate the links between these events and the Prime Minister, who has long protected the people involved today. The date of this mission has not yet been set. (SP)
