EU adopts a crisis management concept for new EUAM RCA mission in Central African Republic

On Thursday 21 November, the EU Council adopted a crisis management concept for a new civilian Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) Advisory Mission to the Central African Republic (EUAM RCA).

The adoption of this concept is the first step in launching this new mission, which will aim to support the reform of the internal security forces in order to help the CAR authorities to mitigate the current security challenges in the country. European experts will support the Ministry of the Interior and the internal security forces, the police and the gendarmerie with the aim of helping in their deployment throughout the country.

In addition, EUAM RCA will advise the Central African authorities at the strategic level “to support the sustainable transformation of CAR internal security forces into a coherent and accountable security provider operating under national ownership”, the EU Council said in a statement.

The mission will coordinate closely with the military EU Training Mission (EUTM RCA), the UN MINUSCA mission and the international community. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
