21/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 21 November, the European Commission authorised a French project to extend the Prado-Carénage motorway tunnel in Marseille by creating an access and exit ramp to the tunnel. The cost of the project is €97 million. This extension is necessary to ensure greater safety and meet the mobility challenges in the heart of the city. This project is financed by extending the duration of the concession for a period of seven years and four months in favour of the current concessionaire (Société Marseillaise du Tunnel Prado-Carénage). The Commission found that the extension of the duration of the concession did not exceed what was necessary to ensure the financing of the tunnel extension works and did not lead to overcompensation of the concessionaire. Specific safeguard clauses have been introduced in the concession contract. (LC)
