18/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States (Coreper) will vote on their favourite candidate (see EUROPE 12364/5) for the post of European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) on Friday 22 November, as confirmed by a European source on Monday 18 November. The three candidates who have been shortlisted by the European Commission are Wojciech Wiewiórowski from Poland, Yann Padova from France, and Endre Győző Szabó from Hungary (see EUROPE 12360/12). In accordance with the procedure decided upon (see EUROPE 12358/11), the vote will be indicative and secret. Each delegation will be invited to award three points to its preferred candidate, and in descending order of preference, two points and one point respectively to the other candidates. Coreper will hear from the candidates beforehand on Wednesday 20 November. For its part, the European Parliament will hold hearings on 25 November in Strasbourg. The European Parliament's Civil Liberties Committee (LIBE) should vote to establish an order of preference the following day. (MF)
