18/11/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 18 November, the European Commission unveiled the composition of its new High-Level Forum on the European Capital Markets Union (CMU), which will be chaired by Thomas Wieser, the former President of the European Economic and Financial Committee (see EUROPE 12346/26). Peter Praet, a former Chief Economist at the ECB, David Wright, President of Eurofi, and Maria Luis Albuquerque, the former Portuguese Finance Minister, will chair the three sub-groups of the Forum, which will focus on: - the creation of an ecosystem enabling greater capital raising, with special focus on innovative SMEs; - the promotion of greater retail investors’ participation; and - the development of the European capital market architecture, with special focus on how new financial technologies can support this process. The Forum will begin work on 26 November and is expected to submit a set of policy recommendations by the end of May 2020.
