28/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – In a letter sent on 25 October to the Director General of the European Commission's Transport Department, Henrik Hololei, Airlines for America (A4A) criticised the German government's recent proposal to increase the tax on airline tickets in order to reduce aviation's greenhouse gas emissions. For this organisation representing the US airline industry, the German plan is contrary to " the international community’s recent confirmation that CORSIA is the exclusive global market-based measure applicable to international aviation". The organisation also considers that by planning to use the additional revenue collected to reduce the VAT rate on train tickets, the proposal violates the Air Transport Agreement between the US and the EU.
