EU commits €53 million in support for health and food security in Zimbabwe

28/10/2019 (Agence Europe)The EU is increasing its support to Zimbabwe by €53 million in the areas of health and resilience, the Commission announced on Monday 28 October. This funding will support the capacity of the primary health care system - assistance channelled through the UNICEF-managed Health Development Fund (HDF). These resources will also help households and local communities develop their capacity to cope with environmental and economic shocks that threaten food and nutrition security – measures that will be implemented under the aegis of the United Nations (UNDP) by NGOs. The €53 million comes from the European Development Fund (EDF), which finances cooperation between the EU and the 79 ACP countries (Africa/Caribbean/Pacific). Zimbabwe's budget under the 11th EDF (2014-2020) is €287 million. (AN)
