28/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The head of the government of Belgium is a woman for the first time. On 27 October, the King appointed Liberal Sophie Wilmès as head of the federal government in current affairs. Currently Minister for the Budget and the Civil Service, Sophie Wilmès is replacing Charles Michel, who is preparing to take over as head of the European Council on 1 December. The reshuffles are not yet complete, as the select ministerial committee has also decided that, if a new government is not formed when Didier Reynders leaves for the European Commission on the same date, it will be the Flemish Christian Democrat Koen Geens who will replace him as Minister for European Affairs. It should be recalled that the country has been without a government since the federal elections (which took place on the same day as the European elections, on May 26th), more than 150 days. (SPj)
