New call for solidarity in welcoming migrants after further rescues at sea

28/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Member States of the European Union were once again on Monday 28 October called upon to show solidarity by welcoming 104 people rescued off Libya 10 days ago and who are still waiting for a landing solution. This call was launched by the NGOs SOS Méditerranée and Médecins sans frontières (MSF). On October 18, the Ocean Viking rescued the 104 occupants of an inflatable boat in distress 50 nautical miles off the Libyan coast. Among them were 41 minors and two pregnant women. The German NGO Sea-Eye for its part, rescued 90 migrants in the Mediterranean on Saturday 26 October. The European Commission has not yet been contacted to get involved in coordinating the operations, it said on Monday. (SP)
