European Commission proposes reducing 40 quotas out of 72 in the Atlantic and North Sea by 2020

On Thursday, 24 October, the European Commission proposed reducing fishing opportunities for cod in the Celtic Sea by 88% in 2020 and to significantly reduce catches of horse mackerel, sole, pollack and herring in some areas of the Atlantic. A 20% reduction in hake TACs is also planned.

The Commission presented its substantial package of proposals on total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas for 2020 in the Atlantic, North Sea and English Channel. The Fisheries Ministers of the EU countries...
