In Vigo on Tuesday 22 October, the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA) adopted the Single Programming Document (SPD) for 2020-2024, which includes a budget of €17.6 million for 2020 to enable it to carry out its functions.
According to a statement from the agency, the aim of the SPD is to enhance the close cooperation between EU Member States on monitoring, control and surveillance measures in the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP).
EFCA's work will focus on the following strategic areas: operational coordination, risk assessment and data analysis, and support for coastguard functions. This cooperation will strengthen EFCA’s capacity for assisting the EU in the international dimension of the CFP (compliance with international provisions, implementation of the EU Regulation on illegal, unreported and unregulated activities (IUU), and direct cooperation with non-member states through the technical and operational cooperation programme (PESCAO).
