15/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 15 October in Bercy, the French Minister of Finance, Bruno Le Maire, called for the introduction of a European tax on fuel for aircraft and boats. This call was made during a speech on his new “Productive Employment Pact”, one of the strategic orientations of which is to achieve a zero carbon economy by 2050. “It is incomprehensible that carbon emission targets have been set for our cars and that no targets have been set for aircraft or boats. We propose to work towards a European taxation on aircraft and marine fuel” said the Minister. He also called for the rapid implementation of the European taxonomy on sustainable finance (see EUROPE 12335/8). On this matter, he considered that nuclear power should be kept in the taxonomy and considered as “an energy essential to the fight against global warming”. (MF)
