15/10/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 October, Didier Guillaume, the French Minister for Agriculture, presented a joint initiative with Estonia, Denmark, Latvia and Italy to the Council for Agriculture to revise 'the interpretative guide' to the Habitats Directive (Directive 92/43/EEC on the conservation of natural habitats and of wild fauna and flora), “with a view to more effective management and better adaptation to the population changes in wolves”. "The wolf is no longer an endangered species; therefore, France has decided to increase the removal from 10 to 17-19%. This population must be regulated, because we have a problem of cohabitation between pastoralism and predators”, the French minister explained to the press. France sees no inconsistencies between its actions and the recent judgment of the Court (see EUROPE 12346/23). (LC)
