26/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 26 September, the chairwoman of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights, Marie Arena (S&D, Belgium), welcomed the release, the day before, of Algerian political opponent Karim Tabbou (see EUROPE B12327A19). A member of the protest movement in Algeria, Mr Tabbou was detained on 12 September for damaging the morale of the army. His arrest sparked a wave of outrage in the country.
