11/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – Following the example of the European Commission's Social Scoreboard (see EUROPE 12201/20), the Committee of the Regions has published a Social Scoreboard at the regional level for the first time. The table includes data related to education, gender inequality, the rate of people living below the poverty line, the employment rate (especially in the long term) and life expectancy at birth. According to the regional social scoreboard, the overall trend between 2014 and 2018 is positive: more than 80% of the Union's regions have made progress on social issues. However, the Committee also notes that considerable differences remain within the Member States themselves, taking as an example the particular case in Italy of differences between the North and South of the country.
