11/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 11 September, the European Commission announced the commitment of an additional €4 million to support media, civil society organisations and active citizens in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan to prevent violent extremism and combat radicalisation. According to the Commission, the new projects, developed within the framework of the programme entitled ‘Contributing to stability and peace in Central Asia through media education, improving information and regional cooperation', will support the training and professionalisation of local journalists, activists and press officers to produce high-quality content, while fact-checking platforms will be created to report false news. The funds mobilised come from the Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace (IcSP). (CG)
