11/09/2019 (Agence Europe) – Transport & Environment(T&E), an organisation which advocates for green mobility in Europe, regretted, in a statement published on Tuesday 10 September, the strategy put in place by car manufacturers by promoting the sale of SUVs instead of electric cars. T&E notes that the sale of SUVs has increased from 7% of the vehicle fleet sold in 2009 to 36% in 2018 and it will be 40% in 2021. However, the organisation points out that these cars emit 14% more than similar hatchback models. “In other words, the increase in the number of SUVs since 2013 has had a CO2 effect 10 times greater than the decrease in diesel”, the organisation states. It adds that manufacturers are exposed to much more costly penalties in relation to the investments necessary to achieve emission targets. To view the report: http://bit.ly/2lOSI6I (PH)
