26/08/2019 (Agence Europe) – As soon as the G7 summit opened in Biarritz, the European Union announced, through the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, an initial EU contribution of 1 million euros to the creation of an International Fund for Survivors of Sexual Violence in Conflict Situations. This is an international initiative based on the projects of the two 2018 Nobel Peace Prize winners, Iraqi activist Nadia Murad and Congolese doctor Denis Mukwege. This initiative was presented by these two combatants of sexual violence used as a weapon of war to members of the G7 and representatives of international organisations present on Sunday 25 August as part of the discussion on tackling global inequality (see EUROPE 12311/1, 12146/19).
