22/08/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 12 August, the European Commission celebrated International Youth Day 2019 by issuing a joint statement by Commissioner for Development Neven Mimica, Commissioner for Employment and Social Affairs Marianne Thyssen, Commissioner for Education and Youth Tibor Navracsics, and Commissioner for Digital Economy Mariya Gabriel. This statement reiterates the European institutions’ commitment to young people within and outside the EU. It highlights the EU’s support for the United Nations’ 2030 agenda for sustainable development as well as various programmes for young people, such as Erasmus+, DiscoverEU, and the European Solidarity Corps. “Investing in the potential of young people is an investment in our society,” concludes the statement from the four commissioners, whose theme this year is “Transforming Education”.
