EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT PLENARY / Parliament

EU's interparliamentary delegations with organisations, regions and non-Member States have been formed

On Wednesday 17 July, MEPs, meeting in plenary session of the European Parliament, approved the composition of the European Union's interparliamentary delegations with organisations, regions and non-Member State for this new mandate.

As in the previous mandate, the European Parliament will have 44 interparliamentary delegations for the period 2019-2024.

The largest delegation numerically will be the 78-member Delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly (Africa Caribbean Pacific - European Union). The Delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly will have 75 members.

Among the numerically large delegations, it should be noted that the delegation for relations with the United States will be composed of 63 MEPs, the delegation for relations with China of 37 members and 31 parliamentarians will work in the delegation for relations with Russia.

In addition, both the delegation concerning Israel and Palestine will have 18 MEPs, while 25 members will sit on the delegation of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee.

The purpose of interparliamentary delegations is to maintain relations and exchange information with parliamentarians from non-Member States, regions or organisations. This is to promote the EU's core values.

The Chairs and Vice-Chairs of these delegations will be elected at constituency meetings after the summer break. (Original version in French by Lucas Tripoteau)
