09/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Europeans will present a single candidate to replace Christine Lagarde of France as head of the IMF. “We discussed the process of appointing the IMF head. This process will begin shortly. For the time being, the ministers do not have a roadmap. So we will work on it with a clear objective in mind. There was unanimous agreement to present a single candidate for the position. We didn't mention a name, a profile. This will come later”, said Finnish Finance Minister Mika Lintilä on Tuesday 9 July. The age limit of 75 years will be taken into account, he assured. On Tuesday, the ECOFIN Council formally recommended that the European Council appoint Mrs Lagarde as President of the ECB, taking effect from 1st November and for an eight-year term (see EUROPE 12287/1).
