01/07/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 1 July, at the end of the failed summit on senior European posts (see other news), French President Emmanuel Macron reiterated his opposition to EU enlargement before its reform. "I am more than sceptical about all those who explain to us that the future of Europe is in a new enlargement, while we cannot agree at Twenty-Eight”, he stressed, quite tense. "I will be uncompromising on the fact that I will refuse any form of enlargement before deep reform of our institutional functioning”, he warned. The General Affairs Council on 15 October is due to decide on the opening of accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania. (CG)
