25/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The ministerial discussion on the European Commission's list of high-risk non-Member States in the area of money laundering (see EUROPE 12193/28), scheduled for the Ecofin Council on Tuesday 9 July, has been removed from the agenda of European Finance Ministers, a European source said on Tuesday 25 June. After the decision of the EU Council last March (see EUROPE 12204/24) to reject the delegated act establishing the list, the European Commissioner for Justice, Věra Jourová, indicated her willingness to bring the subject to the finance ministers' table (see EUROPE 12208/11). The discussion should have focused on methodology and allowed Member States to express their position clearly, thus paving the way for the rapid adoption of the delegated act. But the European Commission apparently indicated that it was not yet ready to report on its work, our source explained. In any case, the Commission has made repeated assurances that it will present a new copy of its list (see EUROPE 12210/24) before the end of its mandate. (MF)
