25/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Europe of Freedom and Direct Democracy (EFDD) group in the European Parliament is doomed to disappear, a source said on Tuesday 25 June, reporting a final meeting in progress as we went to press. Composed of British Nigel Farage’s Brexit Party and the Italian Five-star Movement (M5S), the EFDD is far from reaching the minimum number of seven countries (from which the MEPS come from) necessary to form a political group. The elected representatives of the M5S could sit with non-attached MEPs, since a rapprochement with the far-right group Identity and Democracy (ID) is still "out of the question", according to the same source. The Brexit Party will also not join the ID group (see EUROPE 12269/9). Contacted by EUROPE, the EFDD group did not wish to comment, stating that the "discussions (were) ongoing", on the eve of the submission of the lists for the parliamentary groups. (MM-intern)
