17/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Council of the European Union put online, on Saturday 15 June, the draft agreement on the revision of the Treaty on the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). This agreement, reached on Thursday night at the Eurogroup, should enable the ESM to act as a common backstop for the Single Resolution Fund (SRF), the financial arm of the Banking Union's ‘resolution’ component, and to have an enhanced role in crisis prevention and management (see EUROPE 12275/1). The Heads of State and Government, meeting at the Eurozone Summit on Friday 21 June, must now approve these new statutes. The Eurogroup will then have to work in the coming weeks on rewriting the guidelines for the ESM before the ratification process of the future new treaty can begin.
