17/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – As announced by EUROPE (see EUROPE 12269/20), the Foreign Affairs Council, meeting in Luxembourg, decided on Monday 17 June to revoke the framework for restrictive measures against the Maldives. This framework, which had been adopted on 16 July 2018, was empty (see EUROPE 12063/6). It provided for the possibility of a visa ban and assets freeze for persons and entities responsible for acts against the rule of law or impeding an inclusive political solution in the Maldives, as well as for persons and entities responsible for serious human rights violations. The decision to revoke this framework was taken because of the improved situation in the country. (CG)
