17/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Korean (KIPO), European (EPO), Japanese (JPO), Chinese (CNIPA) and American (USPTO) patent offices launched a new joint group on emerging technologies and artificial intelligence on Thursday 13 June at the annual IP5 meeting. The objective is to explore future joint initiatives related to technological change at the global level. As such, the five leaders also agreed to improve the IP5 structure in order to achieve greater efficiency over time. In general, the five offices are currently trying to harmonise the classification of emerging technologies and also improve the Global Dossier Services (an international cooperation service). The initiative is important, given that these five offices represent 85% of patent applications worldwide. (PH)
