14/06/2019 (Agence Europe) – From Saturday 15 June, newly registered lorries and buses in the European Union must be equipped with a first generation smart tachograph. This device must be able to record the activity of lorry drivers. The issue of the smart tachograph is a major point in the discussions on the social and market aspects of the first mobility package (see EUROPE 12152/10, 12229/1). In this last package, the aim is to define the year from which vehicles must be equipped with the second generation smart tachograph, which is more efficient and reliable, in order to ensure compliance with the social rules applicable to drivers.
