Member States favour a cautious approach for future of EU substantive criminal law

Romania has launched a debate during its Presidency of the Council of the EU on the future of EU substantive criminal law. In a draft report dated Friday 26 April, it lists the views of Member States on this issue and notes that, overall, caution is required.

"The debate aimed to refresh the Council of the EU's assessment of the need to further introduce criminal provisions in new areas (...) and thus providing a snapshot of needs currently perceived by Member States", it explained.
