Spanish Electoral Commission bans Carles Puigdemont from European elections

29/04/2019 (Agence Europe) – The former President of Catalonia, the pro-independence leader Carles Puigdemont, was banned from running in the European elections, his pro-independence party, Junts per Catalunya, announced in a statement on Monday 29 April. According to the party, this is an attempt to "silence" the former independentist who initiated the referendum (see EUROPE B11884A18, B11880A1).
