European Public Prosecutor's Office not in best position to fight terrorism, according to legal experts

Last September, the European Commission began discussing the possibility of extending the mandate of the European Public Prosecutor's Office - which will be responsible for combating fraud involving European funds and VAT from 2020 - to include cross-border terrorism by 2025 (see EUROPE B12094A7). The Dutch Standing Committee of Experts on International Immigration, Refugee and Criminal Law (the 'Meijers Committee') has examined the issue and called for caution.
