14/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The Kremlin could try to interfere in the May European elections in order to get as many MEP seats as possible for pro-Russian or Eurosceptic political forces. This is the warning issued by the Estonian intelligence service in a report published on 12 March. This document underlines that Russia's objective is to continue to undermine the unity of the EU by creating disorder and distrust among Member States. During the European elections, it continued, the Kremlin is expected to focus on the larger Member States - Germany, France and Italy - where it can expect the highest number of mandates (about one third of MEPs come from these countries) and where some political parties have clearly expressed their support for the Kremlin's current policy towards the West. And the Estonian intelligence service is calling for vigilance. (SPj)
