14/03/2019 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament, meeting in plenary session in Strasbourg on Wednesday 13 March, approved the European Commission's proposal to include the United Kingdom in the list of third countries with a European Union general export authorisation for the export of certain dual-use items (645 votes in favour, 2 against, 7 abstentions). These products and technologies are normally used for civilian purposes, but may have military applications. With the United Kingdom applying very strict controls and a record number of refusals to grant authorisation for these types of export, the European Commission's initiative to prepare the EU for a possible no-deal Brexit received almost unanimous support from MEPs.
