European Medicines Agency authorised to appeal concerning its rental agreement in London

11/03/2019 (Agence Europe)The European Medicines Agency (EMA) received leave to appeal earlier this month against the High Court of England and Wales' decision requiring it to honour its rental contract in Canary Wharf, London's business district. Said Court indeed held that such an action could be brought on the ground that it met the criterion of 'reasonable chances of success' and for other compelling reasons, including the public interest in the case. The deadline for initiating such a procedure is 15 April 2019. As a reminder, on 20 February, the High Court ruled that Brexit was not a sufficient reason to invalidate the lease agreement between the agency and the real estate group The Canary Wharf Group. This contract, concluded in 2014, runs until 2039, another 20 years, and is expected to generate €480 million in rent (see EUROPE 12199/13)(SPj)
