26/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – MEPs in the Employment and Social Affairs Committee gave the go-ahead by a very large majority (31 votes in favour, 3 against, 3 abstentions) to the interinstitutional agreement reached on the directive on work-life balance (see EUROPE 12179) on Tuesday 26 February. As a reminder, the co-legislators have decided that parental leave will be for 2 months, non-transferable, paid at an adequate level, no later than 5 years after the entry into force of the Directive. Paternity leave was maintained at 10 days with remuneration aligned at the national level of sickness benefits; carer’s leave at 5 days, but without mention of any remuneration. Finally, the possibility of requesting adjustments to work has been established until the child is at least 8 years old. The agreement will be submitted to the first plenary session in April. (PH)
