Annual inflation declined by 0.1 percentage point in both the euro area and the European Union between December 2018 and January 2019, according to a study by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat), published on Friday 22 February.
Annual inflation reached 1.4% in January 2019 in the euro area (up from 1.5% a month earlier) and 1.5% in the EU (1.6% in December).
Compared to January 2018, this rate is however up by 0.1 percentage point in the euro area.
