19/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 19 February, the EU Council adopted conclusions calling for a coordinated European response to avoid any interference in the May 2019 European elections (see EUROPE 12094). The Council calls for a series of non-legislative measures, including: - regular meetings of the European election cooperation network; - the establishment of an early warning system enabling Member States' national contact points to share information on disinformation campaigns quickly; - the establishment of a multidisciplinary network of independent fact-checkers and academic researchers to detect disinformation on different social networks and digital media. Such an approach should involve the European Commission, the European External Action Service, Member States, the private sector and respect fundamental rights, the text states.
