19/02/2019 (Agence Europe) – The vote of the European Parliament's Economic and Monetary Affairs and Environment Committees on Wednesday 20 February on the draft report by Sirpa Pietikäinen (EPP, Finland) and Bas Eickhout (Greens/EFA, the Netherlands), which lays the foundations for the future taxonomy on sustainable finance (see EUROPE 12026), was eventually postponed due to the lack of a stable majority supporting the compromises and at the request of the EPP Group. Some compromises, supported by Parliament's left wing, have extended the scope well beyond the initial proposal, a parliamentary source told us on Tuesday 19 February. Several political groups, including the ECR, could not have joined the compromises on the inclusion of social aspects in the taxonomy, on disclosure or on new unquantified audit measures, fearing that they would lose sight of the initial objective and complicate the proposal, she said. The new date for the vote has not yet been set. (MF)
